Between changes in the local community, shifting needs that came about as a result of the pandemic, the expanded role technology now plays in every part of our lives, along with an increased interest in making activities and expanding personal, business, and life skills, the Round Lake Area Public Library conducted a community survey and held several focus group sessions to evaluate current and future services and resources to ensure we continue serving as a thriving, essential part of the Round Lake community. Overall Survey Findings Include:
• Respondents highly value the library and see it as an essential community resource.
• Respondents see the library having a role in mitigating social challenges in the community.
• Spanish language respondents care a lot about youth success and access to ESL and Spanish-language programs.
• Some patrons prefer other libraries for their collections, children's area, and programming.
• Respondents believe that print materials, office equipment, and civic services will be the most important offerings for their family in the future.
• Many residents requested the library add individual meeting rooms, group work spaces, collaborative spaces such as study rooms and larger program event space.
