Please note that programs marked with (R) require registration and programs marked (NR) do not require registration.  Please call if unable to attend.

 

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Ongoing Program

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten ongoing program encourages you to read 1,000 books to your child before he or she enters kindergarten. Just read three books a day for one year and it will add up to over 1,000 books! Stop by Youth Services to register your child and pick up a reading log! (R)

Preschool Picasso (Ages 3-5)

Tuesday, August 1 • 11:30 a.m.

Bring your preschooler for hands-on arts and crafts! Each session will have a different theme. Make sure to dress in clothes you don't mind getting messy or bring a smock! (R)

 

Science Club: Launch It! (Ages 8 and up)

Wednesday, August 2 • 1:00 p.m.

Be ready to make and try some different launching systems to blast things into the air. You will be amazed! Meet in the parking lot. In case of rain this program will be cancelled. (R)

 

Escape Room (Ages 8 to 14)

Thursday, August 3 • 2:00 p.m.

Oh no! You are trapped in a room! How are you going to get out? Work as a team with others and solve some puzzles, find some clues, and hopefully you will get out before the time expires. (R)

 

Pizza, Pop, and Pencils (All Ages)

Saturday, August 5 • 1:00 p.m. 

Celebrate the ending of our summer reading programs. Drop-in and enjoy some pizza, pop and color with our colored pencils, markers and crayons. Free event for kids and adults who participated in our summer reading clubs. (NR)

 

Toddler Art (12-24 months)

Tuesday, August 8 • 11:30 a.m.

Toddlers learn through all 5 senses! Bring your little one for fun hands-on, sensory activities to learn about and interact with the world around them. Each session will have a different theme. This fun program can get messy, so don't forget to bring a smock or an old t-shirt for you and your child. (R)

 

E-Books 101 for Kids (Ages 8 and up)

Tuesday, August 8 • 4:00 p.m.

Bring your Kindle, iPad, iPhone or Android device and learn how to use Overdrive. Overdrive will allow you to check out books and some audiobooks on your device. So find out how you can get started today. Don't forget to bring your library card. (R)

 

Pokemon Night (All Ages)

Thursday, August 10 • 6:00 p.m.

Come in to watch a movie. While you are here bring your DS, 2DS, or 3DS to play your Pokemon games against others or even bring in your Pokemon cards to play or showoff. (NR)

 

Pokemon League (All Ages)

Thursday, August 17 • 12:00 p.m. 

Drop-in for non-stop Pokemon fun. All ages are welcome (even adults) to play. Don't know how to play, don't worry. We'll teach you with our library deck. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a caregiver. This program will take place in the Meeting Room. (NR)

Join us for stories from around the world. Each month we will read stories from a different country, stamp your passports, and create a fun craft. (R)

Thursday, August 31 • 12:00 p.m.

Creative Writing Workshop: Story Soundtrack (Ages 8-12)

Thursday, September 7 • 4:00 p.m.

We will explore the different moods of a story through music. A few short stories will be read and we'll decide as a group which music fits each story. Then, we will use a piece of music for inspiration on creating our own short story.  (R)

Bring your Kindle, Ipad, Iphone or Android device and learn how to use Hoopla. Hoopla will allow you to check out books, audiobooks, comics, movies and some TV shows. So find out how you can get started. Don't forget to bring your library card. (R)

 

Lego Robotics: Drumming Monkey (Ages 9 and up)

With our WeDo Lego Construction Sets and software you will be able to build and program your project. Meet in the main level computer room in Adult Services. (R)

Be Creative (Ages 8 and up)

Come join us on Saturday, September 23 as we celebrate our 45th all day long. We'll be remembering our beginnings with a 70's theme birthday party. Stop by throughout the day for snacks, library tours, photo ops with a surprise guest, special events (details to come) and much more! Buy raffle tickets now for your chance to win a 48" TV, Atari Flashback and GameStop gift card, or a turntable to play your favorite records! Design a Zentangle Leaf (Ages 6-8)

There are patterns all around us. Choose your favorite patterns and create a unique leaf-shaped design! (R)

 

Lego Robotics: Goal Kicker (Ages 9 and up)

You must have done the Dancing Birds, Smart Spinner, and Drumming Monkey projects to be able to do any of the other projects. (R)

 

Science Club Jr.: Take the Engineering Challenge (Ages 5-7)

Trick or Treat! Halloween is approaching. Do you have your costume? We have many unused children's costumes from a donation (Party City) that you may want to choose as your own. Take one per child, as supplies last. Drop-in event. (NR)

Drawing Sugar Skulls with Christine Thornton (Ages 10 and up)

Saturday, October 7 • 1:00 p.m.

Christine Thornton returns with art supplies and advice on how to draw Sugar Skulls. A fun, multicultural program featuring the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos. Compare and contrast Dia de los Muertos with American Halloween then create your own sugar skull drawing. (R)

 

Holly's Boo Day (Ages 4-8)

Sunday, October 8 • 1:00 p.m.

Holly Collie, library dog, invites you to her Boo Day of Halloween stories and crafts. Treats will be given to all. Wear a costume if you wish. (R)

 

Lego Club (Ages 5 and up)

Monday, October 9 • 1:00 p.m.

What a great way to spend the afternoon! We will supply the Lego's, you supply the imagination. (NR)

Tuesday, October 24 • 4:30 p.m.

Ooooo! Make a fun Halloween decoration! We will be using liquid starch, so dress for a mess. Project takes 24 hours to dry and can be picked up the following day. (R)

Sensory Friendly Movie (All Ages)

Join us for a sensory friendly movie. The lights will be comfortable and the sound will be lower. Popcorn will be served but feel free to bring your own snack as well as other comfort items. The program is designed for children with special needs. All attendees must be accompanied by an adult/caregiver. This event will take place in the Meeting Room. RLHS Students Present "Alice in Wonderland" (All Ages)

Saturday, October 28 • 11:00 a.m.

Come join cast members from Round Lake High School's production of "Alice in Wonderland." They will read from the book, perform scenes from the play, answer questions, and teach a variety of theatre games. All attendees will receive a voucher for a free children's ticket to the show. (R)

Sensory Storytime(All Ages)

Wednesday, November 1 • 6:00 p.m.

This storytime will engage children through stories, movement, and music. This non-traditional storytime format is designed for children who have autism, difficulties with sensory processing, or simply sitting still. (NR)

 

Ozobot Time!(Ages 8 and up)

Thursday, November 2 • 4:00 p.m.

This little robot does some awesome things! You draw out the commands and it will do what you tell it to do. Come and experiment with programming your Ozobot! We will use our iPads to try some different things with the Ozobots. (R)

 

STEM for Homeschoolers (Ages 8 and up)

Friday, November 3 • 10:00 a.m.

Come in and experiment with some fun STEM projects. This time we are going to focus on the "E" in STEM. (R)
