1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Ongoing Program

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten ongoing program encourages you to read 1,000 books to your child before he or she enters kindergarten. Just read three books a day for one year and it will add up to over 1,000 books! Stop by Youth Services to register your child and pick up a reading log! R

 


SEPTEMBER

Creative Writing Workshop: Story Soundtrack

Thursday, Sept. 7 @ 4pm
We will explore the different moods of a story through music. A few short stories will be read and we'll decide as a group which music fits each story. Then, we will use a piece of music for inspiration on creating our own short story. R

Hoopla 101 for Kids (Ages 8 and Up)

Tuesday, Sept. 12 @ 4pm
Bring your Kindle, iPad, iPhone or Android device and learn how to use Hoopla. Hoopla will allow you to check out books, audiobooks, comics, movies and some TV shows. So find out hoe you can get started. Don't forget to bring your library card! R

Fall Friends

Wednesday, Sept. 13 @ 6pm
Come in and enjoy fun fall stories, a craft, and a treat! R

Be Creative (Ages 8 and Up)

Thursday, Sept. 14 @ 6pm
Create something new to bring home. Make sure you bring a smock or something that you don't mind getting dirty. Supplies will be provided. R

Flying Fox Conservation (All Ages)

Saturday, Sept. 16 @ 1pm
Meet some amazing wildlife creatures and learn how they exist. This program will take place in the Meeting Room. R

Design a Zentagle Leaf (Ages 6-8)

Tuesday, Sept. 26 @ 4:30pm
There are patterns all around us. Choose your favorite pattern and create a unique leaf-shaped design! R

Costume Time (Ages 10 and Up)

Saturday, Sept. 30 @ 11am
Trick or Treat! Halloween is approaching, do you have your costume? We have many unused children's costumes from a donation (party City) that you may want to choose as your own Take one per child, while supplies last. NR


JUNE

Summer Reading Club: Read by Design(All Ages)

Saturday, June 3 • All Day through July 31

Join us this summer for our Summer Reading Club: Read by Design. The first 100 children to register will receive a free movie ticket to Fox Lake Cinema. Complete your Summer Reading Log to be entered to win some grand prizes which include but are not limited to an American Girl doll, Legos, Bikes, and GameStop giftcards. Summer Reading Club for children, teens, and adults runs from June 3 through August 7. The last day to register is July 31. The last day to turn in your log is August 7. (R)

 


JULY

There Are Bees in the Library! (Ages 5-7)

Thursday, July 6 • 2:00 p.m.

We are being invaded by robot bees! With these Bees, you will be able to program them to move and go through mazes. Come and join the Bee fun! (R)

 

Tie-Dye Bandanas (Ages 8 and up)

Friday, July 7 • 1:00 p.m.

Keep cool this summer and design a cool tie-dye bandana using sharpies! (R)

 


AUGUST

Preschool Picasso (Ages 3-5)

Tuesday, August 1 • 11:30 a.m.

Bring your preschooler for hands-on arts and crafts! Each session will have a different theme. Make sure to dress in clothes you don't mind getting messy or bring a smock! (R)

 

Science Club: Launch It! (Ages 8 and up)

Wednesday, August 2 • 1:00 p.m.

Be ready to make and try some different launching systems to blast things into the air. You will be amazed! Meet in the parking lot. In case of rain this program will be cancelled. (R)
