1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Ongoing Program

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten ongoing program encourages you to read 1,000 books to your child before he or she enters kindergarten. Just read three books a day for one year and it will add up to over 1,000 books! Stop by Youth Services to register your child and pick up a reading log! (R)

 

  *Registration for September-November programs begins Saturday, August 22nd.

 -SEPTEMBER-

Toddler Art (Ages 1-2)

Tuesday, September 8 • 11:30 a.m. 

Toddlers learn through all 5 senses! Bring your little one for fun hands-on, sensory activities to learn about and interact with the world around them. Each session will offer a choice of three different art/craft activities. (R)

 

The Write Idea: Youth Creative Writing Club (Ages 8-12)

Tuesday, September 8 • 4:00 p.m.  

We'll have fun using our imaginations to come up with stories that will spark our creativity. There will be writing games and journaling ideas. (R)

 

Lego Robotics: Drumming Monkey (Ages 9-14)

Wednesday, September 9 • 4:00 p.m.  

With our WeDo LEGO Construction Sets and software, you will be able to build and program your project. Meet in the main level Computer Room in the Adult Services Department. (R)

 

Waffles Are For Food Lovers; Enjoy Some (Ages 3-6)

Wednesday, September 9 • 6:00 p.m.

Celebrate National Waffle Week by enjoying some waffle stories and save some room for some waffle treats. (R)

 

Dragon Tales (Ages 5-8)

Tuesday, September 15 • 6:00 p.m.

Listen to some exciting dragon stories and make your own dragon craft. (R)

 

Fall Fun (Ages 3-7)

Wednesday, September 16 • 6:00 p.m.

Join us for the fun celebration of fall with stories and a craft. (R)

 

Kids Movie Night (PG) (All Ages)

Thursday, September 17 • 6:00 p.m.

We provide the popcorn! You may bring your own beverage and snack. Movies are shown on a large screen in the Meeting Room. (NR)

 

Lego Robotics: Flying Bird (Ages 9-14)

Wednesday, September 23 • 4:00 p.m.

With our WeDo LEGO Construction Sets and software, you will be able to build and program your project. Meet in the main level Computer Room in the Adult Services Department. *You must have done the Dancing Birds, Smart Spinners and Drumming Monkey projects to be able to do this program. (R)

 

Painted Leaves (Ages 10-18)

Saturday, September 26 • 1:00 p.m.

A Painting Workshop with Christine Thornton. Capture the beauty of fall with this fun painting workshop. First we'll draw a leaf on watercolor paper. Then learn to use watercolor pencils and add vibrant color to your painting. (R)

 

Paint by Design (Ages 7 & up)

Wednesday, September 30 • 5:00 p.m.

Come create your own masterpiece to decorate your room! No artistic skill required! We will use masking tape and paint to create a colorful geometric design that will earn you tons of compliments! (R)

Paws to Read (All Ages)

Saturday, October 3 • 11:00 a.m. 

Holly Collie, library dog, and Officer Terry's K-9 pal will be here to listen to you read. You can read or just show the dogs some pictures and make up stories. Come and visit with our special dog friends and learn about the work they do. (R)

 

Mythology Galore! (Ages 9-14)

Thursday, October 8 • 5:00 p.m.

Join us for an adventure to explore the worlds that Rick Riordan and other authors have created. Now is a great time to explore the world of ancient Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Norse Mythology, Gods and Goddesses, as well as have fun. (R)

 

Lego Club (Ages 5 & up)

Friday, October 9 • 1:00 p.m.

Use your imagination to build your own creation. We will display your project in the Youth Services Department. (R)

 

Heroes for Dogs (Ages 5-12)

Friday, October 9 • 3:30 p.m.

October is "National Adopt a Dog Month" and we are calling all local heroes to bring in some much needed items that we can donate to Save-A-Pet. We will also listen to some stories about dogs and have a furry visitor! (R)

 

Nature Club: All About Pumpkins (Ages 6-11)

Saturday, October 10 • 11:00 a.m. 

Join us for nature facts, crafts and fun in this eco-friendly program. Each month has a different theme. (R)

Storyteller Mary Jane Haley, invites young children to this fun Halloween event with puppets and stories. (R)

 

Monster Madness (Ages 4-7)

Wednesday, October 21 • 6:00 p.m.

This Halloween monster program will have funny stories, a craft, and a Halloween treat. (R)

 

Trick or Treat Storytime (Ages 5-9)

Thursday, October 22 • 6:00 p.m.

Wear your favorite costume, listen to some trick or treat stories, make a seasonal craft, enjoy some treats and take home a goody bag. (R)

Day of the Dead Bilingual Storytime & Craft (Ages 3-7)

Friday, October 30 • 2:00 p.m. 

Join us to learn about and celebrate the Day of the Dead with stories, songs, and a fun craft! Te invitamos a festejar al dia de los muertos con cuentos, canciones y manualidades! (R)

Pokemon Night (All Ages)

Thursday, November 5 • 6:00 p.m. 

Come in to watch a movie. While you are here bring your DS, 2DS or 3DS to play your Pokemon games against others or even bring in your Pokemon cards to play or showoff. (NR)

Kurt Wood from Aw Yeah Comics (Ages 7 & up)

Saturday, November 14 • 1:00 p.m. 

Come meet Kurt Wood. Part-Time Time Traveler, Full-Time Jedi Master of Awesomeness. Bullpen Artist for Aw Yeah Comics. Come watch a demonstration and then take part in creating your own drawing. (R)

International Games Day (All Ages)

Saturday, November 21 • 12:00 p.m.

Come join us for a day of gaming fun, from board games to video games. Libraries all around the United States will be participating in the International Games Day event that happens once a year. (NR)

 

Drop-In and Get Crafty: Thanksgiving (All Ages)

Saturday, November 21 • 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Gobble, gobble! Create your own Thanksgiving themed craft in this drop-in program. (NR)
