1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Ongoing Program

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten ongoing program encourages you to read 1,000 books to your child before he or she enters kindergarten. Just read three books a day for one year and it will add up to over 1,000 books! Stop by Youth Services to register your child and pick up a reading log! (R)

Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash (Ages 5-9)

Monday, March 2 • 3:00 p.m.

Celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday with books and crafts. We will read some of his favorites, create a Seuss craft and enjoy some treats. Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss! (R)

 

Meet, Share, Play (Newborn to 18 months)

Tuesday, March 3 • 9:30 a.m.

Parents, caregivers, grandparents! This is a special time for you to come and meet other people and their babies. Share your concerns, ideas, tips and experiences. (NR)

 

Pokemon Night (All Ages)

Thursday, March 5 • 6:00 p.m.

Come in to watch a movie. While you are here bring your DS, 2DS or 3DS to play your Pokemon games against others or even bring in your Pokemon cards to play or showoff. (R)

 

Paws to Read (Ages 6-12)

Saturday, March 7 • 11:00 a.m.

Grab a book and read to a dog! Officer Terry and K-9 Star and Holly the Collie will listen to you read. Reading to a dog is one way to build self-esteem and make a new friend. (R)

 

Toddler Art: Busy Bags (Ages 1-2)

Tuesday, March 10 • 11:30 a.m.

Swing by for hands-on crafts and fun! Each month has a different theme. (R)

 

The Write Idea: Youth Creative Writing Club (Ages 8-12)

Tuesday, March 10 • 4:00 p.m.

We'll have fun using our imaginations to come up with stories that will spark our creativity. There will be writing games and activities, so meet others who enjoy writing and have a nice snack! (R)

 

Lego Robotics: Smart Spinners (Ages 9-14) 

Wednesday, March 11 • 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.

With our new WeDo LEGO Construction Sets and software, you will be able to build and program your project. Meet in the main level Computer Room in the Adult Services Department. (R)

 

Nature Club (Ages 6-12)

Saturday, March 21 • 11:00 a.m.

Mush! The Iditarod is our theme this month with info about the race, dogs and the extreme weather. Spring will also be on the agenda with a craft or two to make. (R)

Drop-In and Get Crafty: Spring (All Ages)

Thursday, March 26 • 1:00 p.m.

Stop by on your day off of school and have fun making a craft to celebrate the beginning of spring. (NR)

 

Lego Club (Ages 5 and up)

Friday, March 27 • 3:45 p.m.

Use your imagination to build your own creation. We will display your project in the Youth Services Department. (R)

 

 Miss Jamie's Farm (Ages 0-8)

Saturday, March 28 • 1:00 p.m.

Miss Jamie and her puppet friends from the farm take the audience on a magical barnyard adventure in a sing-along, dance-along show that's fun for kids and grownups alike. (R)

April Fools Silly Time (Ages 4-7)

Wednesday, April 1 • 6:00 p.m.

Enjoy funny stories and a silly craft. (R)

 

Fun Fractured Fairy Tales (Ages 6-10)

Thursday, April 2 • 6:00 p.m.

You never heard Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs told like this before...until now! We'll be reading some classic fairy tales with a fractured twist and finish this storytime with a fun craft. (R)

Join us for a lively discussion about a great book. All who register can pick up the book that we will be discussing at the Youth Services Reference Desk beginning March 16. (R)

Pet Expo (All Ages)

Saturday, April 18 • 1:00 p.m.

Join us for our annual Pet Expo. Shelters like Save-A-Pet, animal rescue groups and other animal organizations will be here to give information. You will have the opportunity to meet some great animals. (NR)

Earth Day Upcycling: Arm Knitting (Ages 9 & up)

Wednesday, April 22 • 6:00 p.m.

Come learn to arm knit using recycled clothing! Bring an old t-shirt to cut up or use ours! Kids will make a small project to take home. (R)

 

Lego Club (Ages 5 and up)

Friday, April 24 • 3:45 p.m.

Use your imagination to build your own creation. We will display your project in the Youth Services Department. (R)

 

JG's Reptile Show (All Ages)

Saturday, April 25 • 1:00 p.m.

In honor of Earth Week, Jim Galeno will bring his amazing animals to the library. Learn about these animals from Jim: python, tortoise, alligator and more! Don't miss this great experience. (R)

Free Comic Book Day (All Ages)

Saturday, May 2 • All Day (while supplies last)

Come in to the Youth Department and pick up a free comic book (limited selection) at the Youth Reference Desk in celebration of Free Comic Book Day. The free comics are sponsored by Dreamland Comics located in Libertyville. (NR)

Mom Is Special / Mama es Especial (Ages 3-7 / Edades 3-7)

Stop by the Activity Room to plant some flowers to take home to mom, for the garden, yourself or the neighbor next door. Flowers are limited, so come early. Plants and materials are provided. (NR)
