1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Ongoing Program

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten ongoing program encourages you to read 1,000 books to your child before he or she enters kindergarten. Just read three books a day for one year and it will add up to over 1,000 books! (R)

 

Little Ducklings (Ages 3-6)

Join us for a fun spring storytime. (R)

 

Lego Robotics (Ages 9-14)

Wednesday, May 7 • 4:00 p.m.

With our new WeDo LEGO Construction Sets and software, you will be able to build and program your project. Using gears, cams, motion and tilt sensors you will even be able to add movement and sound to your project! Meet in the main level Computer Room in the Adult Services Department. The Drumming Monkey Project will be held on this date. (R)

Celebrate your mom by joining us for some sweet Mother's Day stories. We'll also be making a beautiful craft you can give your mom on Mother's Day. (R)

 

Chat and Chew Book Club (Grades 3-5 or Ages 8-11)

Thursday, May 15 • 4:00 p.m.

Join us for a lively discussion about a great book! There will also be an activity and a snack based on the story. All those who register can pick up the book we will be discussing at the Youth Services Reference Desk starting April 14. (R)

 

Bilingual Loom Bracelets (Grade 3 and up)

Wednesday, May 28 • 4:30 p.m.

Turn colorful rubber bands into bracelets and rings. (R)

 

Lego Club (Ages 5 and up)

Friday, May 30 • 3:45 p.m.

Use your imagination to build your own creation. We will display your project in the Youth Services Department. (R)

 

Meet, Share, Play (newborn to 12 months) New!

Tuesday, June 3 • 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.

Parents, caregivers, grandparents! This is a special time for you to come and meet other people and their babies. Share your concerns, ideas, tips & experiences. (NR)

Tropical Fun (Ages 3-6)

Wednesday, June 4 • 6:00 p.m.

Join us for this exciting program. There will be stories and a tropical foil poster to be made! (R)

 

In Spanish: Felines and Friends / Felinos y Amigos (Ages 4-8)

Friday, June 6 • 10:30 a.m.

Join us to read stories and learn about felines and other animals. There will be a take home craft. In Spanish. (R)

 

2014 Summer Reading Club Kickoff & Craft Fair (All Ages)

Saturday, June 7 • 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

It's summer...It's reading...it's Summer Reading! Enjoy browsing craft booths, raffles, face painting, and more. Sign up for our Summer Reading Club and enjoy seeing some performers. Robin's Amazing Dog Stars will perform at 11:00 a.m., The Balloon Dude at 1:00 p.m., and Noodles the Wonder Dog at 3:30 p.m. Also, Officer Terry and his special K-9's will be visiting the library to meet and greet. All performances will be shown in the parking lot.  (NR)

 

Wii Gaming: Boom Blox (Ages 6 and up)

I Love My Dad (Ages 4-8)

Join us for a story time all about Dad! You'll be able to make a craft perfect to give to him on Father's Day! (R)

 

Plant Pals (Ages 5-9) 

Wednesday, June 11 • 10:00 a.m.

Bring a mini shovel, wear old clothes and be ready to dig and plant flowers in the library courtyard. Bring home a plant for your garden. Meet at the Youth Reference Desk. (R)

Paws to Draw: Horses with Christine Thornton (Ages 7 and up)

Saturday, June 14 • 1:00 p.m.

Christine Thornton, artist and teacher, returns to show us how to draw horses. Materials will be provided. Meeting Room. (R)

 

Scrapbooking for Kids (Ages 8 and up) 

Monday, June 16 • 12:00 p.m.

Bring photos, magazine cutouts or other images that you can cut and/or transform into memory or scrapbook pages.Create your own pages with your own style. (R)

Join us to plant tomatoes, peppers, marigolds, zucchini, herbs and more. Bring your own small shovel, wear appropriate clothes and have fun planting veggies. Everyone goes home with a pack of seeds for their own use. Meet at the Youth Reference Desk. (R)

Spa Services for girls, manicure, pedicure, makeup, curling iron and flat iron styles. We will provide makeup and nail polish, but if you have your favorite feel free to bring yours from home. In Spanish. (R)

If your child loves sharks, this is their program! We will be reading shark stories, making a shark craft, and everyone will get an (edible) shark tooth necklace! (R)

First ever youth creative writing meet-up! We'll have fun using our imaginations to come up with stories that will spark our creativity. There will be writing games and journaling ideas. (R)

 

Paws to Read with Brent Allan (Ages 5 and up)

Brent Allan and his raccoon puppet, Paws, present magic, comedy, music and much more for this summer reading club finale. Meeting Room. (R)

 

Delve and Devour Book Club (Grades 6-8 or Ages 12-14)
