Please note that programs marked with (R) require registration and programs marked (NR) do not require registration.  Please call if unable to attend.

 

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Ongoing Program

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten ongoing program encourages you to read 1,000 books to your child before he or she enters kindergarten. Just read three books a day for one year and it will add up to over 1,000 books! Stop by Youth Services to register your child and pick up a reading log! (R)

  

 Winter Family Fun Fest (All Ages)

Saturday, January 21 - Saturday, February 25

Drop by the Youth Services Reference Desk to receive a list of fun family activities to do this winter, and pick up your special winter treat. Each child will receive a book and small prize after completing 10 of the suggested activities. Come back before February 25 with your list of finished activities for your prizes. For ages birth to age 14 and your family. (R)

 

-FEBRUARY-

Preschool Skills (Ages 3-5)

Wednesday, February 8, 15, and 22 • 10:30 a.m.

Bring your preschooler and learn some of the skills that will be needed to get them ready for kindergarten. Each week we will focus on a different skill. This is a three week program that will take place in the Meeting Room. (R)

   

Kids Movie Night (All Ages)

Thursday, February 16 • 6:00 p.m.

We provide the popcorn! You may bring your own beverage and snack. Movies are shown on a larger screen in the Meeting Room. (NR)

 

Cookies and Coloring (Ages 8 & up)

Friday, February 17 • 1:00 p.m.

Kids eight and up and adults are invited to de-stress by coloring, listening to music, enjoying some cookies. Coloring books, activity sheets, crayons, markers, colored pencils will be provided. This program will take place in the Meeting Room. (R)

 

Lego Club (Ages 5 & up)

Monday, February 20 • 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

What a great way to spend the afternoon! We will have lots of LEGO's for you to build most anything your imagination will allow. Drop-in. (NR)

Lego Robotics: Airplane Rescue (Ages 9-14)

Wednesday, February 22 • 4:00 p.m. in the Computer Room

With our WeDo Lego Construction Sets and software, you will be able to build and program your project. *You must have done the Dancing Birds, Smart Spinner and Drumming Monkey projects to be able to do any of the other projects. (R)

 

Ozobot Time! (Ages 8-11)

Thursday, February 23 • 4:00 p.m.

This little robot does some awesome things! You draw out the commands and it will do what you tell it to do. Come and experiment with programming your Ozobot! (R)

 

Nature Club (Ages 5 & up)

Saturday, February 25 • 11:00 a.m.

Winter is here and where are the animals? The birds? What are the trees doing? We investigate winter and find out what is happening in nature during the cold months with some books (stories) and crafts. (R)

 

Mardi Gras (Ages 5 & up)

Saturday, February 25 • 1:00 p.m. 

Students from the Round Lake High School French Club will present a fun Mardi Gras program. Learn some French and enjoy the Mardi Gras celebration. (R)

Preschool Picasso (Ages 3-5)

Tuesday, March 7 • 11:30 a.m.

Bring your preschooler for hands-on arts and crafts! Each session will have a different theme. Make sure to dress in clothes you don't mind getting messy or bring a smock! (R)

St. Patrick's Day (Ages 3-7)

Wednesday, March 8 • 6:00 p.m.

Bring your little leprechauns to this St. Patrick's Day program. We'll be doing art and having a wee snack. (R)

 

Homeschool Book Group (Ages 7-14)

Friday, March 10 • 10:00 a.m.

Come on in and talk about your favorite books, recommend books to each other, and hear about upcoming books to add to your reading list. While you are here, enter to win some free books. (R)

 

Drop-In and Get Crafty: St. Patrick's Day (All Ages)

Saturday, March 11 • 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. 

Stop by from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Activity Room and have fun making a craft to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. (NR)

 

Pocket Circus (All Ages)

Saturday, March 11 • 1:00 p.m.

Watch a fun circus program with the whole family in the Meeting Room. (R)

 

Toddler Art (12-24 months)

Toddlers learn through all 5 senses! Bring your little one for fun hands-on, sensory activities to learn about and interact with the world around them. Each session will have a different theme. This fun program can get messy, so don't forget to bring a smock or an old t-shirt for you and your child. (R)

 

Hoopla 101 for Kids (Ages 8 and up)

Tuesday, March 14 • 4:00 p.m.

Bring your Kindle, Ipad, Iphone or Android device and learn how to use Hoopla. Hoopla will allow you to check out books, audiobooks, comics, movies and some TV shows. (R)

 

Bee-Bots for 5 to 7 Year Olds (Ages 5-7)

Thursday, March 16 • 4:00 p.m.

We are being invaded by robot bees! With these bees you will be able to program them to move and go through mazes. Come and join the Bee fun! (R)

Preschool Fair (For Parents)

Need information about preschools and daycares in the area? Drop-in and talk to local representatives from preschool/daycare facilities. Free event for families/adults. (NR)

Meet Holly Collie, library dog, and K9 Star, Officer Terry's buddy. Read to them or make up stories so you can bond with these special canines. Books are provided or bring one of your favorites. (R)

American Girl Book Club (Ages 7 and up)

Saturday, April 1 • 11:00 a.m.

This month we read, Meet Kit, and discover what it was like for Kit and her family to live during the Depression of the 1930's. We will discuss the book, create a craft from the Depression Era and snack on something Kit may have eaten during the 1930's. Books are available for check out at eh Circulation Desk a month before the club. (R)

 

Preschool Picasso (Ages 3-5)

Bring your preschooler for hands-on arts and crafts! Each session will have a different theme. Make sure to dress in clothes you don't mind getting messy or bring a smock! (R)

 

Zinio 101 for Kids (Ages 8 and up)

Tuesday, April 4 • 4:00 p.m.

Bring your Kindle, Nook, Ipad, Iphone or Android device and learn how to use Zinio. Zinio will allow you to check out magazines on your device. (R)

There's nothing like a tasty snack on a stick. But when you are finished, don't throw out he stick! We will repurpose sticks (actually, we will use lots of new craft sticks) to do some awesome stick science projects! (R)

 

Kids Anime Night (Ages 9 and up)

Join us for an anime movie and a small treat. (R)

 

Drop-In and Get Crafty: Easter (All Ages)

Friday, April 14 • 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

National Sibling Day/ Dia Nacional de los Hermanos (All Ages)

Saturday, April 15 • 11:00 a.m. 

Come celebrate National Sibling Day with us in this bilingual program and with some stories and make a gift for a special sibling. (R)

 

E-books 101 for Kids (Ages 8 and up)

Tuesday, April 18 • 4:00 p.m.

Bring your Kindle, Nook, Ipad, Iphone or Android device and learn how to use Overdrive. Overdrive will allow you to check out books and some audiobooks on your device. So find out how you can get started today. Don't forget to bring your library card. (R)

Pet Expo (All Ages)

Saturday, May 6 • 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Visit with animal shelters, search and rescue organizations, dog and cat rescue groups and veterinary groups to get information about pets. Free event for all. Drop-in from 1 to 3 p.m.  (NR)

Come in to watch a movie. While you are here bring your DS, 2DS, or 3DS to play your Pokemon games against others or even bring in your Pokemon cards to play or showoff. (NR)
